International Women’s Day 2020

International Women’s Day has chosen the theme of equality. During the last year we saw global change with several women led movements raising awareness of the bias and discrimination that women continue to face in today’s workplace.

We would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the women in our company who we believe are helping to carve a place for women in the electronics industry.

Introducing Ros – Sales & Marketing Manager

How long have you been with the Cyclops?

2 years

What did you do before and how/why did you join Cyclops?

I previously worked a variety of sales management roles in the Oil Industry and eventually felt ready for the challenge of a completely new industry. I met with Daniel Yodaiken, our MD, and instantly felt inspired. Since joining the Cyclops Group it’s been a huge learning curve that still continues each and every day.

What do you like about working in the electronics industry?

The pace. When you thrive on selling, there is no greater thrill than getting the deal done and quickly! It is hugely enjoyable to find solutions for our customers. In one phone call or email we can solve a problem that’s been a huge headache for them. That creates a real buzz in the office.

What would be your advice to anyone thinking about working in the industry?

Grab it with both hands and do it! If it’s any type of sales role then make sure you never stop trying to improve what you do.

Could you tell me something that you are interested in and do outside of work?

I am a proud Mum to a growing family and that keeps me very busy. I love cooking and I love feeding people! I am at my happiest when we have lots of people round the table, eating and making lots of noise. I really enjoy travelling and have been lucky enough to visit some amazing places. As a student I backpacked around the world and the list of countries that I’d like to visit is ever increasing. Next on the list has to be the Northern Lights, that would be amazing.

Introducing Sarah – IT Project Coordinator

How long have you been with the Cyclops?

I’ve been with Cyclops for 6 months now.

What did you do before and how/why did you join Cyclops?

I was studying Business and IT at York St John’s University before starting with Cyclops. I joined because it was one of the only jobs that gave the opportunity to work in IT as well as getting an insight into the other aspects of the company,  giving me a lot valuable experience under my belt.

What do you like about working in the electronics industry?

I enjoy working in the electronics industry as it is a constantly growing and changing industry that is essential for most careers worldwide. I do enjoy being a woman in this industry as I feel people never expect you to succeed, so when you can excel in parts of it, it makes it even better.

What would be your advice to anyone thinking about working in the industry?

I personally think it is one of the smartest decisions someone could make, to go into the electronics industry, as there will always be opportunity in it no matter what. A willingness to learn will come in extremely handy.

Introducing Donna – Purchasing & Quality Assurance Manager

How long have you been with the Cyclops Electronics?

I’d have got less for murder. Ha ha seriously, I started in sales in 2000 then left in 2005 to work for a manufacturer as purchasing manager. I then came pack to Cyclops to head up purchasing. I added quality manager into my role five years ago.

What did you do before and how/why did you join Cyclops Electronics?

A year after I left university, I joined Cyclops to sell electronics to the German market. I left for a bit to focus on the purchasing aspect of the job, since that is what I enjoyed. When Daniel asked if I was interested in applying for the position of purchasing manager at Cyclops I jumped at the opportunity as Cyclops is a great company to work for.

What do you like about working in the electronics industry?

I like the variety and there is so much to learn that even after nearly 20 years in the industry I still learn new things every day. I enjoy the technical aspect of the role and the satisfaction of finding a difficult part.

What would be your advice to anyone thinking about working in the industry?

If you are looking for variety and like to constantly learn about new technology, then electronics is for you. Don’t be put off if you don’t have a technical background. Ask questions of your customers and suppliers and you will soon learn.

Could you tell me something that you are interested in and do outside of work?

In my spare time, I am a cub leader and am in charge of 21, 8-year old cubs. We do all sorts of activities with them from traditional camping and hiking, to flower arranging and card making.
